Fishermen demand pending subsidised kerosene

Manipal: A large number of fishermen staged a protest in front of the DC office on February 26 against the non distribution of subsidised kerosene to traditional country boat fishermen since three months.

Under the leadership of Kundapur Taluk Sampradayika Nadadoni Meenugarara Okkoota, more than 5000 fishermen participated in the protest and demanded distribution of subsidised kerosene at the earliest. There are 4,514 country boats in the three districts of coastal Karnataka which require 1,355 kilolitres of kerosene every month. Since three months, the subsidised kerosene has not been released.

After the protest, the memorandum was handed over to Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district Priyanka Mary Francis.

Gopal Poojary, Byndoor MLA; Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC; Somashekar Karvi, President of Okkoota; Manju Billava, Secretary of Okkoota; Madan Kumar, Honorary President; Raghupathy Bhat, former MLA; leaders Naveen Chandra, Janardhan Tingalaya, Chandrakanth Karkera, Aziz Shirur, Shahul, Devadas Karvi, Naresh Karvi, Yashpal Suvarna and others were present.
