Final electoral roll list for the assembly election released

Udupi: As per directions of Election Commission of India, the election commission released the final list of voters in the state on February 28. As such, the final electoral roll of the Udupi district for the Assembly election was released at DC office by Anuradha, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district on Saturday, March 3.

Addressing media persons at DC office, Anuradha said that as per the final electoral roll, a total 9,78,503 voters are there in the district. Of this, there are 4,70,730 male and 5,07,773 female voters. In Byndoor legislative constituency there are 1,06,196 males and 1,12,667 females out of total 2,18,863 voters. In Kundapura, there are 94,653 males and 1,02,408 females out of a total 1,97,061 voters. In Udupi 98,759 males and 1,05,018 females out of 2,03,777 voters. In Kaup there are 85,446 males and 94,348 females voters out of 1,79,794 voters. In Karkala there are 85,676 males and 93,332 females voters out 1,79,008 voters. She said that compared to previous election of legislative assembly in 2013, 1.4 lakh voters are increased in the district.

She said that the copy of the final electoral roll has been published in all the taluk offices and copy of the electoral roll will provided to each booth level officer nominated by district administration. She said the public have option of their names, if the same is missing. The electoral roll is published in website, www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in. In case of any complaints, one can call toll free number 1077 for clarifications. In regard to district concerned one can go through the website, www.udupi.nic.in/election.html.

Anuradha said that in 2013 election, there were 1,038 polling booths while in parliamentary election in 2014, there were 1,059 polling booths and this election due to increase in electoral voters, the number of polling booths may be increased. The polling booths are at Byndoor 243, in Kundapur 215, in Udupi 213, Kaup 203 and in Karkala 204 total 1078 polling booths in Udupi district.

Shivanand Kapasi CEO of Zilla Panchayat said that all measures have been taken to ensure convenience of specially-abled persons and senior citizens at the polling stations. In case of necessary, ramps will be established at polling booths and wheelchairs will be provided for the disabled and senior citizens. 8000 plus specially-abled voters have been identified in the district, he added.

The election commission sent 1450 and 1620 Ballet units from Surendranagar, Gujarat state to Udupi district. 50 and 50 ballet units received from BEL, Shivmogga district All the polling machines are kept in highly secured place amid police security.

At the end, Additional Deputy Commissioner Anuradha distributed the voters’ lists to all representatives of political parties in the district.

Shivanand Kapasi said that in order to create awareness among public, several programmes will be conducted including street plays and so on. Prior to polling, the voting machines will be made available for checking.
