Exhibit calmness, patience and courage: DCP Annamalai

Manipal: “Nurses and policemen operate at the cutting edge level of the profession as they assess and deliver their jobs without compromise,” said K Annamalai, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, South Division, at the 29th Annual day celebration of Manipal College of Nursing at Dr. TMA Pai Auditorium in Manipal, on Friday, February 1.

“Calmness, patience and courage are the qualities that the nurses have to display during critical situations all through their service. Manipal is a very energetic place and is considered as a education hub, and thus the Government of India has bestowed the ‘Institute of Eminence’ status to Manipal Academy of Higher Education,” said Annamalai.

Guest of Honour, Saroja Jaykumar, AGM of Medical Services, Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, in her address said that the current generation of students are technically very skilled and aspire to accomplish new heights. She also urged the budding nurses to challenge themselves, speak out, question and communicate.

“Be open to learning, take time to correlate what is learnt, utilise what you learn while nursing the patients and be kind to everyone,” said Saroja Jaykumar.

Dr. P L N G Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor (Quality Assurance), MAHE, Manipal, in his presidential address, said that qualities like active listening, empathising and sympathising with patients, their relatives and other professionals is very important and will also help the nurses to be legally safe.

Annamalai inaugurated the Gerontogical Nurses’ Association of India (GNAI), which is the first of its kind in the country. MCON Research e-newsletter was released by Saroja.

Awards were distributed to deserving candidates during the event. Some of the awardees were Alphonsa E T, for the best outgoing student, Dr. Mamatha S Pai, Professor and Head, Department of Child Health Nursing, for the most accomplished faculty, and Sheela Shetty and Prima J J Dsouza, Assistant Professors, MCON Manipal, for best lecturers.

Dr. Anice George, Dean Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal, welcomed the gathering and introduced Chief Guest. Dr. Judith Angelita Noronha, Associate Dean and Head of OBG Nursing Department, MCON, Manipal.

Radhika R Pai, Assistant Professor, compered the formal programme.
