English language can provide plethora of career opportunities: Dr. Karippal

Puttur: The Department of English, St Philomena College organized national level English fest titled “Alfresco” on Wednesday, February 20.

The principal of EXPERT PU College, Valachil, Mangaluru and Former Course Director, Department of Teacher Education, Kannur University Dr N. K. Vijayan Karippal inaugurated the fest and delivered the inaugural address.

He said, “millions of people have accepted English as the common language across the world. The English language gives us self-esteem. English encourages the study of all the other subjects. A teacher with good English is always considered as the best teacher. In order to connect with the people in the world, we need the English language. The command over the English language can provide a plethora of career opportunities”.

Campus Director, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro participated as the guest of honour.

He said, “English is a requirement of every individual. To express our feelings, we need to have good English. One who cultivates the habit of listening will become a good speaker”.

Principal Prof. Leo Noronha in his message said, “English is a universal language. The purpose of education is to go beyond academics and explore the unknown.

Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Ganapathy S said, “English is a predominant language and branch of knowledge. It is considered as the springboard for creativity”.

The Correspondent Very Rev. Fr Alfred J Pinto in his presidential address said, ‘Good language develops our personality. The people who listen to others will become a good conversationalist.’

The fest consisted of competitions namely Quiz, Enactment of Play, Paper Presentation, Western Concert and News Casting.

Around 20 teams from various parts of the nation participated in the events.

Cinol Titus Veigas and team performed the prayer.

HoD, Department of English and Fest Convener, Bharathi S Rai welcomed the gathering.

Student coordinator Mohammad Hashim proposed the vote of thanks.
