One can notice the earth cracked up to a distance of 100 meters here. The opening seems to be nearly ten feet deep and people were rushing to the place to witness this wonder till late night.
Local residents however are a worried lot.The exact picture may emerge only after officials concerned visited the spot and inspected the crack
When Dr HN Udayshanker, Professor in Geology at MIT was contacted, he said the development could be linked to the recent sudden gushing in of water at Kerlaparkala. At the same time he adds nothing could be said with certainty until the case was studied. He also said if possible he would visit the spot on Wednesday.

Senior geologist Niranjan after scrutinizing the spot, addressing the media said that the situation look normal however if the crake increases because of whatever may be the reason, it can be dangerous.
The sudden hike in the water level at Parkala and the crack here are interlinked, he declared.
He said, “Normally such small geographical changes are common in costal belt. Sea erosion is also the effect of such change; it is scientifically called as seismic activity.”
“We need a geological centre for the coastal region to study such seismic activity”, he added.
He also stated that the government is waiting for a huge incident to happen, till then the seismic micro- zone concern in Udupi will be kept aside.
Prof and Geologist H N Udaya Shankar, professor at Manipal Institute of Technology said that the estimated length of the fissure is about 100 meters, and it is in a curved shape. It is surely natural and not manmade. He added that there chance of land slide in the slop area.
Amsumali the writer, whose house is in the slop said” we are not scared, there are 24 houses here. The history of the place says that there was a cave beneath the rocks which exists till now the over flow off the ground water from the “Manchikere” through the cave might be the cause of the crack, he assumed.
