Udupi: District In-charge Minister Dr. Jayamala handed presented this year's Kannada Rajyotsava awards at Rajathadri, DC's office here on November 30.
The award presentation ceremony is usually conducted on November 1, the day of the Kannada Rajyothsava, but this year, the celebrations were postponed due to by-polls in the state.
Joseph Rebello of Nejar, Kallianpur and M Ismail Saheb of Hoode near Kemmannu were among the 32 who were presented with the Rajyotsava award.
After presenting the awards, Dr. Jayamala explained that the award ceremony was postponed to November 30 due to the model code on conduct for the by-elections in the state. "It was hard to finalise the awards as there were more than 2000 aspirants who put forth their applications. It is great that more people from the Udupi district were chosen to receive the award this year," she said.
She added that it was amazing to see people from the age group of 7 to 94 receiving the award. She also asked Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, who was also present at the award ceremony, to arrange for cash prizes along with the existing award.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vidyakumari welcomed the gathering and District Information official Qadar proposed a vote of thanks. Prashant Shetty Havenje compered the programme.
Udupi Taluk Panchayat President Nalini Pradeep Rao was also present at the event.
