Dr. B. R. Ambedkar worked towards development of an egalitarian society: Pramod Madhwaraj

Udupi : Celebrating the 126th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan, Adi Udupi here on Friday, April 14 district in-charge minister, Pramod Madhawaraj recalled Dr. Ambedkar as a visionary who worked for empowerment of all sections of the society.

Futher he mentioned that Dr. Ambedkar not only worked for the empowerment of Dalit community but also towards the empowerment of women, workers and persons belonging to the backward and deprived communities. While drafting the constitution of the nation he kept in view the welfare of the people from the poor, downtrodden and other weaker sections and provided reservation to them. However only a few section of the society have benefited from the same and thus the government and the people should try for the upliftment of the weaker section of the society.
The state government has organized several programmes for empowerment of SC and ST communities and has also kept aside a sum of Rs 27000 crore for the same.

Inaugurating the programme, President of Zilla Panchayat, , Dinakar Babu said Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was not only responsible to the empowerment of poor and backward sections, but also he was educated and tried to change the life of the people.

Dr. Vasudev also spoke in regard to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Various achievers were felicitated on the occasion and laptops and other facilities were distributed to the achievers.

S N Ramesh, District Social Welfare Development officer, welcomed the gathering.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje President of Udupi City Municipal Council, Narasimha Murthy President of UUDA, Sheela K. Shetty Vice President of ZP., Sandhya Tilakraj Vice president of CMC, Nalini Pradeep Rao President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Rajendra Pandubettu Vice President of TP, Priyanka Mary Francis DC, K. T. Balakrishna SP, Anuradha Assistant Deputy Commissioner, Maheshchandra Udupi Tahsildar were among others present.
