Udupi: District Waqf Advisory Committee member K A Abdul Rehman has alleged Kannangar Juma Mosque Committee of misleading the community members by saying that the Karnataka Minority Department had sanctioned Rs 50 lakhs to construct a community hall in Kannanagar, Padubidri.

Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, September 25, Rehman said that the auditorium built in front of the mosque was being rented out by the committee for Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 without any authorised receipts.

He said, “The rent money from the community house is not being accounted for since revenue, expenditure, and rent details are not being submitted to the Waqf Board.”

“The community hall, which was built to benefit the people, is being rented out for a profit and is unfair to the minorities,” he added.

Rehman further said, “Although the government has released a grant of Rs 20 lakhs, the construction of a residence for pilgrims visiting the mosque is not being carried out. Based on a complaint, the Waqf Board had demanded that the committee return the Rs 5 lakh grant money but no such payment has been made so far.”

Rehman also insisted that the matter should be investigated immediately and that an administrator be assigned to the committee.

Haneef, HK Idababba, Abdul Aziz, and HCN Haji were present at the press conference.
