Udupi: After Deputy Commissioner (DC) Priyanka Mary Francis complained about the repeated delays in the completion of National Highway, district in-charge secretary Maheshwar Rao instructed her to serve officials to the National Highway Authority of India’s higher officials for a hearing on the matter.
Rao issued these instructions at the progress review meeting of the district level officers held at the DC’s office on Friday, July 20.
During the meeting, the DC brought up the issue of delays in completing the highway works. NHAI and its contractors have failed to complete the work within the deadline, causing congestions on the highway. People are protesting about the bad quality of roads, but the local officials of NHAI have not responded adequately to address the problems, she said.
On the issue of district cooperative banks passing a resolution against crop insurance facility, the district in-charge secretary said the government directive has clearly mandated to cover crops under insurance and cooperative banks cannot go against it. He appealed the farmers who take crop loans to purchase a crop insurance coverage. He assured the farmers will receive their pending crop insurance amount very soon.
Rao also instructed the CEO of Zilla Panchayat to look into the demand for replacing the wooden footbridges in the district with permanent concrete structures.
