Dist. administration honours teachers on their day

Udupi: The role of a teacher is to build a strong nation. It is our culture to respect and honour teachers for their tremendous role in the development of the society and the nation, said Dinakar Babu, President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat at the district level Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the Udupi district administration, District Education Department and G Shanker Family Trust at Shamili Hall here on September 5.

Inaugurating the programme, Dinakar said, “After our parents, we give respect to teachers for their contribution to the society. It is because of the hard work of the teachers that students from the district are at the top in the state, and we appreciate this.”

MLA Raghupathy Bhat presided over the programme in the absence of the District In-charge Minister Jayamala. During the programme, the best teacher award was given to government school teachers, aided school teachers and unaided schools for primary and high school level. Meanwhile, retiring teachers were also felicitated.

Earlier G Shanker delivered the keynote address and the government officials to increase the prize amount to be given to all the award winners.

Sheshashayana Karinja of the DDPI welcomed the gathering and Raghuram compered the programme. Bhaskar Mayya spoke on behalf of the award winners and Kudi Vasanth Shetty spoke on behalf of the retired teachers. BEO Lokeshappa proposed a vote of thanks.

Zilla Panchayat Vice President Sheela Shetty, Udupi Taluk Panchayat President Nilini Pradeep Rao, ZP member Geethanjali Suvarna, High School Teachers Association President Dinkar Shetty, Kiran Hegde, Prakash P V, Mangala Shetty and Chandrashekar Shetty were present on the dais.
