Udupi: Deputy Commissioner of Udupi has given green signal for re-opening the salons and hair dressing units across the district from May 18. However, the shops can be opened with several conditions applied.
Bhaskar Bhandary, president of Savitha Samaja Organization said that the district administration has responded positively to the demands of the Organisation and they have been asked to strictly follow guidelines to ensure safety amidst the corona crisis.
Conditions include-
*Alloting time slots for each customer to ensure there is no crowding inside the salons
*No saloons can use air conditioning system
* Social distancing has to be maintained
* Salons must ensure hygiene inside the units by using clean clothes and sanitised equipment
*Robes, aprons and towels given to one customer should not be reused without wash
*Wearing masks and gloves are compulsory for the salon personnel
* Both customers and salon personnel must use sanitisers.
* The distance of one meter must be maintained between two salon chairs.
*Salons should be shut on Tuesdays.

Bhandary said that several barbers’ families had been in distress after the lockdown was announced. Udupi’s businessman Nadoja G. Shankar and G. Shankar Family Trust donated rice and grocery kits to at least 2000 families.
Speaking about the state government’s recently announced of financial assistance of Rs. 5000 for barbers, he said that the amount must be given to the barbers at the earliest.
