Udupi: The government children and women’s hospital in Kavi Muddana street of the city has been demolished to construct a new hospital. The construction on the new hospital has already begun.
The debris of the demolished building is being transported in Tipper trucks through the crowded main roads of the city without even covering the debris with tarpaulins. Pedestrians and drivers of other vehicles are finding it difficult to move around due to the dust and pollution caused by the debris. There are also chances of infectious germs spreading around the city. People say that they are being infected with disease causing germs due to the construction work of the new hospital.
Social workers Nithyananda Olakadu and Taranath Mestha Shiruru have demanded the Traffic Police, City Corporation, Health Department and the District Administration to take necessary action regarding the issue. They have also warned of staging a massive protest rally if no action is taken.
