Udupi: The Congress party will win in all the five legislative constituencies in Udupi district, said V S Ugrappa, MLC and one of the observers of the Udupi district.

Addressing the media at the Congress Bhavan, here on February 11, Ugrappa said that there was no confusion in the selection of ticket in the Udupi district. “The Udupi, Kaup and Byndoor assembly constituencies will be represented by the sitting Congress MLAs for the coming election. The Congress activists and party leaders have proposed Rakesh Malli’s name and in the Karkala constituency, three names have been proposed by the party activists. They are former MLA Gopala Bhandary, former chief minister Veerappa Moily’s son Harsha Moily and District Congress Committee Vice President Muniyalu Uday Shetty. “MLC Veena Achaiah along with me and KPCC observers will submit our report to the KPCC and the party high command. The final decision will be taken by the party high command on the selection of candidates”, he said.

Both Ugrappa and Veena Achaiah interviewed the aspirants and their supporters at the Congress Bhavan. Ugrappa said that the party had candidates in all the constituencies except Karkala where there was a healthy competition between three aspirants for the ticket which would be resolved without any issues. While choosing candidates, their social status, winning capacity, contribution to the growth of the party and other aspects will be considered. “I am happy to see the enthusiasm of the party workers which shows that the Congress party will win in all the five constituencies in the district”, he said.

“When a Congress national leader called Narendra Modi ‘Neech’, all the BJP leaders criticised him. But when the prime minister had called the Siddaramaiah government ‘Nanga Naach’ and ‘10% government’, no one spoke. The prime minister should provide proof for his allegations”, he said.

He further accused that Modi had failed to fulfill his pre-poll promises and in turn fooled the public to get votes. “He is a great liar”, he commented.

Speaking about the Congress leaders’ recent visits to the temples, he said that it is their personal matter. He then went on to say that unlike the BJP, Siddaramaiah and Rahul are true Hindus. “We don’t go to temples for political purposes. We follow the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and the Mahatma. The Congress gives importance to all religions”, he said.

KPCC Kundapur Constituency observer Mamatha Gatti, Shaila Kuttappa, District Congress President Janardhan Tonse, District Congress Secretary Narasimha Moorthy and others were present.
