Udupi: The Block Congress organized a protest rally in the city against the rising prices of petrol, gas and diesel on Saturday, February 10.
The protesters gathered and took out a rally from the Board High School along with a camel and a horse which passed through the service bus stand, Triveni Circle, KM Marg, Diana Circle, Court Road, and Big Bazaar finally culminating at the War Memeorial, Ajjarkad.
Speaking to protesters, Sathish Amin Padukere, Block Congress President said that the Modi led NDA government at the centre has been
looting the people and that the government is profiting at the expense of the common man. While the international crude oil prices have come down, the Modi government is filling up its coffers. He also accused the government of robbing several crores from LPG consumers in the country by increasing the prices of the subsidised LPG cylinders.
He said that when the Congress government was at the centre, it maintained the fuel prices. "Amith Shah and Modi are looting the people and squeezing out their hard earned money and that is the sole aim of the BJP government," he said.
Congress leader Amrith Shenoy, said that Modi made false promises about providing jobs to the youth of the country. "Arun Jaitley says that you can earn money by selling pakoras. What is the employment guarantee for the highly skilled and educated people in the country?," he said adding that the BJP has not fulfilled any of their promises since they came to power.
District Congress Committee President Janardhan Tonse also spoke during the protest. Women Congress activists helped in the preparation of the veg pakoras. Janardhan Bhandarkar welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.
A large number of congress activists participated in the rally. Prashanth Poojary, Prakyath Shetty, Dinesh Puthran, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail,
Ramesh Kanchan, Christan Almeida, Neeraj Patil, Sujarya Poojary, Veronica Cornelio, Roshni Olivera, Sunitha Shetty, Jyothi Hebbar, Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Sandhya Tilak Raj, Celine Karkada, Harmos Noronha and others were present.
