Udupi: The Congress party’s manifesto supports terrorism and treason in the country and it is of great concern that they have recommended changes in the Sedition Act, said Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, BJP district president.

Addressing a press meet at the BJP office in Kadiyali on Monday, April 8, he said that the Congress manifesto poses a great danger to the country. The Congress party has knowledgeable persons like Kapil Sibal and Shashi Tharoor. But I wonder why The Congress party wants to support acts of treason. Their manifesto looks like it has been inspired by Pakistan, he said.

He also accused the then UPA government of not giving the security forces the power to make independent decisions. “But in the NDA government, Narendra Modi has given a free hand to the security forces to take the necessary decisions to protect our nation. Meanwhile, Modi has strengthened our defence forces and their morale,” he said.

To a query, Rathnakar said that Jayaprakash Hegde, one of the ticket aspirants of the BJP, has been with the party leaders and campaigning. He also clarified that there is no difference of opinion between him and the party whatsoever.

To another query, he said that Pramod Madhwaraj, when he was the fisheries minister, didn’t do much good for the fishermen. The Union government and defence ministry have done everything they can to find the missing fishermen and the boat but have not succeeded so far. Still, we are prepared to do anything to help them resolve the missing boat issue. The fishermen will continue to support the BJP and no one can snatch away out vote banks, he said.

When asked about Shobha Karandlaje’s chances at winning in the Lok Sabha election, he said last time she won with a margin of 1.8 lakhs votes and this time the margin of victory will be more than 3 lakhs. He then said that, not only is the Modi-wave strong in the constituency, but that his various developmental programmes will serve as tools to gain a majority in the state as well as in the Centre. Modi will form the Union government once again, he concluded.

Yashpal Suvarna, Praveen Shetty Kappettu, Kulaidy Suresh Nayak and others were present.
