Udupi: I am the representative of the people and with their confidence, I am contesting the polls as an independent
candidate, said Amrith Shenoy, Independent Candidate from Udupi-Chickmagalur Lok Sabha Constituency.
Speaking to media persons during the press meet at his election office here on Tuesday, April 2, Amrith Shenoy said that he is not worried about his future as he is contesting the polls to represent the people.
“Over the last five years, incumbent MP Shobha Karandalaje has failed to deliver and respond to the needs and
aspirations of the people. This is the reason she has lost the support of the public. There was a general feeling among the people of the constituency that the seat must not be left to the JDS and I had met several top leaders of the Congress and convinced them to retain the seat for the Congress,” he said adding that the Congress High Command had taken decisions without taking the opinion of its district-level leaders. He clarified that he was not against the Congress party, but was against its decision of alloting the seat to the JDS.
“We being loyal members for ages have never been consulted by the party. This has hurt us. I had spoken against the BJP and its communal agenda in several public meetings and I am now facing charges,” he said taking a dig at the BJP.
Shenoy said that if he wins the polls, then he will work as a ‘servant’ of the people.
Shenoy, a Congress party leader had parted ways with the party after the Congress gave away the seat to the JDS during this LS polls. About his resignation, he said that he has sought some time to decide over his AICC membership.
“I am not doing any anti-party activities. Even though the Congress government in the state had celebrated several
Jayantis, Pramod Madhwaraj had not attended even a single event when he was the MLA of Udupi legislative assembly constituency. It is time to decide who is really against the principles of the Congress party,” he said.
Sahid, Anitha D’Souza, Jayashree Bhat, Varadharaj, Ansar Ahmed, Yagnesh Acharya, Ahmed Nejar, Raj Gopal Rai,
Kishore Shetty, Shiraj, Amir Belapu, DR. P. V. Baliga, Rafiq Kallianpur and others were present at the function.
