Udupi: An engineering student from Bengaluru lost his life after drowning in sea at Thottam beach near Malpe here on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
The deceased has been identified as Keerthan (21) from Tiptur near Tumakuru district.
About thirty students had arrived in the town for a college trip. They arrived at Malpe beach after visiting Sri Krishna Temple.
The students were having a fun time in the sea before the tragic incident took place. Due to heavy waves, Keerthan and a few other students, who were new to the sea, lost their balance and started crying for help. The lifeguards rushed to the spot and managed to rescue 3 students, but unfortunately could not save Keerthan.
The students were rushed to the Udupi Government Hospital, where Keerthan was declared dead.
Malpe police are investigating the case.
