Bundh called on Dec 20 against proposed Belman tollgate-1

Udupi: The Toll Gate–Sunka Vasulathi Kendra Virodhi Horata Samiti, Belman has called for a state highway bundh against the proposed construction of the tollgate on the Karkala-Padubidri State Highway on Thursday, December 20.

Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, December 18, at the Udupi Press Club, N Suhas Hegde, Convener of the committee said that it was unfortunate that the state government had hastily decided to construct a tollgate on the state highway connecting Padubidri and Karkala.

"We had already staged a huge protest as the government had failed to scrap the proposed construction of the tollgate in Belman. We have now been informed that the government is forcefully constructing the toll gate with the use of police protection. Hence, we have called for another protest on December 20 at 9 AM," he said.

A minimum of 10,000 people from all the corners of the 27 villages around Belman are expected to participate in the protest march, Hegde added.

"We have called for a bundh on December 20 along the entire Karkala-Padubidri state highway. All the villagers, religious centres, vehicles owners’ associations, international social service organisations, bus owners’ associations, auto unions, various local organisations, taxi associations, businessmen and industrialists have offered their support for the bundh, he added.

Shashidher Shetty, Hariprasad, Sarvajna Tantri and others were present.
