Udupi: The body of a fisherman was recovered 10 nautical miles off the coast of Malpe on Friday, after he accidentally slipped and fell into the Arabian Sea during a fishing expedition with others.
The deceased fisherman has been identified as 39-year-old Sudhakar Venkanna Hoskatti, a resident of Hoskatta near Gokarna of the Uttara Kannada district, police informed.
He was on board a fishing boat named Sri Trijala (KA02MM3830), along with Umesh, Rama, Choodamani, and Sharath, when the incident occurred on January 13, reported TOI.
According to the police complaint filed by the owner of the boat, Nagaraj Thukaram Bobbukar, Venkanna slipped and fell into the Sea as he was drawing in the fishing net and all efforts to search and rescue him were in vain.
Meanwhile, a case in this regard has been lodged in the Malpe Police Station.
