Udupi : The Karnataka Government is planning to interconnect blood banks in the State to meet emergencies, announced U T Khader, the Health and Family Welfare Minister.
He was speaking at the valedictory ceremony, of the voluntary blood collection drive held at the Shamili Auditorium Ambalapady here on Sunday June 29.
A series of blood camps was organized by Mogaveera Yuva Sanghtane in association with District Administration, G Shankar Family Trust, Udupi District Blood Bank and KMC, Manipal to collect 10,000 units of blood in 2013 -14.
In his message Khader said blood donation is the need of the society, it has the power to save life. Awareness programme is much needed in North Karnataka too because the people there have very limited knowledge of donating blood which lead acute shortage of blood in those areas. He said that the networking of the blood banks would help these areas to have sufficient amount of blood.
He also said that he would be visiting the Union Health Minister shortly, with whom he will take up the issue concerning NACO (National AIDS Control Organization) taking blood from the private donors.
The minister added that government is also contemplating establishing blood banks in all district centers and blood storage units in all taluks.
