Udupi:A local BJP leader has been accused of assaulting a security guard on duty at NH 66 toll plaza in Sasthan here on February 11 evening.

Former president of BJP Shakti Kendra, Kota was in a hurry to attend one programme at Bannadi and thus tried to move ahead through the ambulance lane at Sasthan toll gate. However, he was stopped by one of the guards posted at the toll gate and used expletives. Both Vittal Poojary and the guard named Abdul Rehman exchanged angry words. In his complaint, lodged at Kota Police station, Rehman alleged that Poojary physically assaulted him with a helmet following their altercation.

Abdul Rehman, who has been admitted to the Government Hospital, Ajjarkad, Udupi has been working at the toll gate for a year now.

Meanwhile, Poojary has refuted the assault allegations levelled by the toll gate staffer though he admitted to having a verbal argument with him. It is learnt that he too has filed a counter complaint in the case.
