Udupi: On April 23, the Kaup constituency received nominations from the BJP and Congress candidates for the Karnataka Assembly elections scheduled for May 12.

Former MLA and BJP leader Lalaji Mendon submitted his nomination for Kaup constituency here.

Speaking to media after filing his nomination papers, the BJP candidate said that the party workers were enthusiastic about the election campaign. Expressing his confidence about winning the election, he said, “There is anti-Congress wave prevailing in the Kaup Assembly. The BJP will surely win in Kaup with massive majority. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Udupi district. The achievements of Modi will help me to get majority votes.”

His rival for the Kaup constituency, Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake also filed his nomination papers on the same day.

Prior to the filing of his nomination papers, Vinay Kumar Sorake offered prayers at various religious centres in Udupi to seek divine blessings. Thereafter, he along with his supporters proceeded towards the election office at Bannanje to file his nomination papers to the Returning officer.

Later talking to the media representatives, Sorake said that he would start election campaign from April 24. He said, “We will seek votes from the people giving credible facts on the developmental works done in the constituency. We are sure, the Congress party will win in the Kaup constituency.”
