Beware of chain snatchers, advises SP Dr. Sanjeev Patil to walkers

Udupi : Of the several chain snatching incidents that have been reported within the Udupi district police stations limits most belong to people who had gone on morning or evening walks alone, informed Dr. Sanjeev M Patil during his phone-in programme on Thursday, November 30 while advising people to opt to go for walks either with family members or neighbours.

Further, he advised the public to exercise caution while talking to strangers, especially in desolated areas since miscreants often target persons in the pretext of asking an address to execute a crime.

On the issue of few association officials, political leaders attaching their name, post and position on the number plate of private vehicles Dr. Sanjeev Patil said the same will not be allowed from second week of December and that action will be taken against those who fail to abide. Even media persons, newspaper distributors, advertisers and other should not use media or press stickers, he said adding that the police department will provide stickers after consultation with Udupi district Working Journalists Association officials.

Dr. Patil said that tight security arrangements will be in place during the Id Miladunnabi procession from December 1-17 in 64 areas of the district.

During the interaction one caller complained about the speed breakers’ at Indrali Railway station road, where most more accident occurs. The SP stated that he would despatch police officials to check the speed breakers on the road here and if found unscientific, solutions will be worked out.

Another caller questioned the varying tolls at Surathkal, Hejmady and Sasthan toll gates on NH 66 were an owner of a LMV pays Rs 40, Rs 50 and Rs 60 respectively. Another caller complained about CCTv camera not working near Sanskrit College. The SP assured of looking into the matter and informed that a proposal to set up 667 CCtv cameras at 294 areas had been sent to the Zilla Panchayat

On the issue of bikers violating rules and riding without helmets, the SP said that violators would be identified with the help of video identification and a notice will be sent to them.

Around 25 calls were received during the phone-in programme and various issues such as matka, gabling, exchanging newly born baby at private hospital, slow movement of buses, rude behavior of bus conductors, sale of ganja, illegal activities on Malpe road etc calls were raised with the SP.

Sampath, PSI, Kumaraswamy DySP, Udupi and other police officials were present.
