Udupi: Dr Arundhati Chandrashekhar, Director of the Women and Child Department, issued an order suspending Huligevva S Joger, the Superintendent of girls Bala Mandir at Nittur, until further orders.

Pending enquiry as per the Karnataka Civil Service Rules 1957, Huligevva has been suspended. Dr Chandrashekhar’s order also prohibits Huligevva from leaving the headquarters without prior permission from higher officials while she is under suspension.

The official’s suspension comes after Udupi district Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis submitted a report recommending that disciplinary action is taken against Huligevva for neglecting her duties as superintendent. The report listed various allegations such as delay in following her superiors’ instructions, neglecting to seek permission before leaving the headquarters when the election code of conduct was in force, behaving rudely when members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) visited, being on leave between July 2 and 31 of this year without prior permission which caused issues in disbursement of salaries to the staff, food distribution to the centre’s inmates, and other routines.

Huligevva’s arrogance towards the CWC members during a case and the inaction towards her behaviour prompted the Chairman of CWC, Ronald Furtado and members Muralidhar Shetty, Nagarathna, Mohan Kumar and Akhil B Hegde to tender their resignations to the Member Secretary of Karnataka State Integrated Children Protection Society back in June 2017.
