Manipal: The inmates of Asare, a home for the mentally challenged ventured into a different area here on Monday, when they were provided an opportunity to get a feel of paddy cultivation. The inmates, dressed in traditional attire planted paddy saplings in a small plot of cultivable land at their campus.
The inmates are said to have enjoyed wading through water and mud to plant the saplings. It was an experience which gave them the idea of paddy cultivation which takes place at this time of the year, said one of the employees at the home.

Dr Rajeshkrishna Bhandary of KMC Manipal, parents of the inmates and the Governing Council members of Asare were present. Asare has 34 inmates and four children at the day care that are well taken care of.
