Udupi: A bailable arrest warrant has been issued against Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis in connection to land encroachment cases.
A special court formed to deal with land encroachment cases, issued the warrant on March 8 since the DC had failed to appear before the court for enquiry, on the action taken by the district administration on the encroached areas, which includes lakes, despite notices being sent to her.
Udupi SP Lakshman B Nimbaragi said that his office had received the warrant from the IGP Office and the same was sent to the DC through the Manipal Police. The DC has to furnish a bond of Rs 10,000 and appear before the court, he said.
Meanwhile, Francis while speaking to reporters, said that the warrant was a bailable one and she would appear before the court on March 13. Further, she said that complaints had been filed in local courts against the land encroachment. However, since the cases had not been transferred to the special court, a warrant had been issued against her, she added. She also said that she had not received any summons.
