Udupi/Bengaluru: With the state gearing up for 2018 Assembly elections, political leaders have started to switch sides. Among the rumours doing the rounds is that Minister for Sports, Fisheries and Udupi District In-charge Pramodh Madhwaraj may switch over to BJP.
As per sources, All India Congress Committee (AICC) State In-charge K C Venugopal has held a telephonic conversation with the minister seeking his clarification on the political buzz surrounding him.
Madhwaraj has however made it clear to Venugopal that he had no idea of quitting Congress and joining BJP. He stated that the BJP was trying to create confusion in Congress by spreading these rumours.
A recent meeting between Madhwaraj and few BJP leaders, who had come to the city to participate in the Parivarthana Rally had fuelled suspicions of the switch-over.
Notably, Pramodh Madhwaraj’s mother Manorama Madhwaraj was a BJP member before quitting to join Congress party.
