Udupi: There are enough water resources in Udupi and steps must be taken to make complete use of these, said Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

He was speaking at the District Water Supply and Sanitation Committee meeting on Saturday, June 15 in the auditorium of the Zilla Panchayath.

“Currently, water is being supplied to Udupi from the Baje Dam and in the future, water will be supplied from Bharathkal to Udupi, for which arrangements are being made. Once this work is completed, all the panchayaths in Udupi will have 24 hours water supply, said the MLA.

Chief Executive officer of Zilla Panchayath Sindhu B Roopesh instructed the officers to prepare project reports based on the funds allotted under the rural water supply mission for the year 2019-20 and submit it by June 18.

Under the sanitation mission, a target of constructing 640 toilets was given to the grama panchayaths, out of which 403 have been completed and 169 are pending. For solid waste management, a total of 40 treatments plants were approved out of which 14 are completed and 17 are under construction. The project is yet to start in nine grama panchayaths owing to various technical reasons. The officers were instructed to submit proposals for the pending projects.
