Karkala: A horrendous case of an old woman  being neglected by her children was discovered at Ajekar Karkala on Thursday July 4.

A 90-year old lady, named Sunanda was found in a pathetic  condition in a small hut. She was bed-ridden and with no means to survive. Moreover she was also bitten by rats as she could not move.

The district unit of National Human Right Commission took up the initiative to rehabilitate the women and admitted her to a governmental hospital. The police department as well as the media also extended support.

It is learnt that Sunanda  has four children – two daughters and two sons. However none of her children are ready to take up her responsibility. When the Human Rights Commission tried to contact one of her daughters, she reportedly lied that the woman was infected with TB and that is the reason they cannot accommodate her.

However, doctors have confirmed that Sunanda has no such disease. They also said that she is weak because of her old age. Sunanda has been responding to the treatment and if recovered will be shifted to an accommodation chosen by the commission.
