40th Vadiraja Kanakadasa Sangeetotsava to be held on Dec 15 & 16

Udupi: In memory of the contribution of the two saint poets of the Bhakti age, Vadiraja and Kanakadasa, a music festival and symposium are being organised in Udupi on December 15 and 16.

“Vadiraja Kanakadasa Sangeetotsava”, as it is called, is being held for the 40th time in succession. The symposium titled “Vadiraja Kanakadasa Prapancha” is a special event this time. This will take place at Ravindra Mantapa, MGM College premises, Udupi. This is being organised by the Vadiraja Kanakadasa Sangeetotsava Samithi, Kanakadasa Adhyayana Samshodhana Peetha, Udupi, MAHE, MGM College, Udupi and SaRiGaMa Bharathi Sangeetha Vidyala, Parkala.

The programme will be inaugurated at 9.30 AM on December 15 by Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, MAHE. A Ishwarayya, senior journalist, will be the Chief Guest, Dr. H Shanthram, Administrative Officer, Academy of General Education, Manipal will preside over the function.

The speakers on the occasion will include K P Rao (Around the time of Vadiraja-Kanakadasa), Prof. Udyavara Madhavacharya (Philosophy of Vadiraja Literature), Dr. Padekallu Vishnu Bhat (Philosophy of Kanakadasa Literature); Prof. Vee. Aravinda Hebbar (Vadiraja & Kanakadasa in Carnatic Music), T. Ranga Pai (Vadiraja & Kanakadasa in Hindustani Music).

The music programme will be as follows:

On December 15 evening:
Between 4.15 and 5.15 PM-Carnatic Music by singers Samanvi & Ku. Archana, violinist Shushree Shankar from Chennai and Mrudangam player Palghat Mahesh Kumar.

Between 6 and 8 PM-Hindustani Music by singer Ravikiran from Manipal, Tabla player Bharavi Deraje and Harmonium player Shashikiran.

On December 16 morning:
Between 9.30 and 11.00 AM-Carnatic Music by singer Divyashree Manipal, violinist Vasanthi Ram Bhat and Mrudangam player Srinath Vishwanathan, Trissur.

Between 11.15 and 1.00 PM-Hindustani Music by singer Mahabaleshwara Bhagawath from Udupi, Tabla player Dinesh Shenoy from Manipal and Harmonium player Shankar Shenoy.

Between 2.30 and 4.00 PM-Carnatic Music by singer Varijakshai R L Bhat from Udupi, violinist Vasanthi Ram Bhat from Udupi and Mrudangam player Dr. Balachandra Acharya from Manipal.

Between 4.15 and 5.15 PM-Vadiraja Kanakadasa Kruthi Gayana by singer SARIGAMA Bharathi Sangeetha Vidyalaya, Parkala Students, violinist Vaibhav Pai from Manipal and Mrudangam player Hiranmaya.

Between 5.30 and 7.30 PM-Vadiraja Kanakadasa Kruthi Gayana by singer K R Raghavendra Acharya, Tabla player Madhava Acharya from Udupi and Harmonium player Shankar Shenoy from Udupi.
