Udupi : 24X7 electricity and drinking water supply, the two most basic and important needs of the people of Udupi constituency, which I promised to fulfill during last legislative assembly will become a reality soon, said Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA of Udupi constituency.
Addressing an interaction program organized at Sathyamurthy Hall, Udupi CMC building on Friday, Februrary 2 Pramod said that he had promised to meet the 24×7 electricity supply and drinking water needs of the people. Of this, the promise of supplying 24 hours electricity supply has been fulfilled and that of bringing water supply from Varahi will be fulfilled within 30 months, he said.
Presently, water is being supplied to the Udupi city from Swarna river. But it will not suffice throughout the year due to shortage of water from the main supplying dam at Swarna River. A second project planned to meet the water needs, however was not feasible.
Now tender has been called to bring water from Varahi to Baje Dam near Hiriyadka and to be supply water to the city at the cost of Rs. 370 crores under Amrith Project and ADB. The project will be completed within 30 months. In the proposed plan, water will be supplied through 38 km long to Baje dam and after the purification over there, the water will be supplied to the city, he said.
Pramod said that the prime reason to call this meeting was to hold consultation with people and submit a report to the government for further action. Every effort will be made to take all people into confidence while implementing the project. Notably, majority seats were vacant during the interaction meeting at CMC hall.
