10 FIRs registered, Rs 5,87,700 cash seized for code of conduct violation

Udupi: In all, 10 FIRs have been registered concerning violation of model code of conduct in Udupi district so far, said Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district.

Addressing a press meet at her office on April 9, she said the election commission had seized Rs 5,87,700 cash in four different cases-Rs. 59,000 at Nejar, Kallianpur, Rs 70,000 at Sastan, Rs. 3,65,000 at Kundapur, Rs 93,700 at Kanjar, due to lack of valid documentation. If the people concerned provide valid documentation, then the seized amount will be returned to them, she said adding that such huge amounts need to be supported with proper documentation.

Reacting to reports of games being found on the CD launched by the election officials to create awareness among voters, the DC said that the matter would be carefully examined.

Meanwhile, the posters on different the lifestyles of the people in the district was launched by the deputy commissioner in order to encourage voting. The district administration, in various ways, would try to support the people to vote in the forthcoming assembly elections. The various posters depicting the diversity in the region are attractive.

Shivanand Kapasi, CEO of Zilla Panchayat and SVEEP head and Anuradha G, Additional Deputy Commissioner were present at the press meet.
