Tusker tramples 50-year-old farmer to death

Tumakuru: A 50-year-old farmer was trampled to death by a tusker at Jolamaaranahalli in Tumakuru district.

The deceased is Rangaswamaiah from Jolamaaranahalli.

It is said that he was going to his farm on Monday night when the tusker knocked him down and trampled him. Initially he was rushed to Tumakuru district government hospital, where the doctors suggested to take him to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru as the injuries were of serious nature.

However, he died on the way to Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The forest department has decided to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lac to his wife Gangamma.

Three tuskers had entered the district five days ago from Adrangi forest in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural district. On Monday night, they were in Mallasandra tank. On Tuesday, they were in Adagur plantation in Gubbi taluk, said sources.
