Tumakuru: In a heart-wrenching incident, a father and son were crushed under the wheels of the Shatabdi express train in the Gokula layout of Tumakuru on Saturday evening.
It is gathered that the son was trying to stop his father from committing suicide but got killed in the process.
According to the police, the deceased are Mariyappa (57) and his son Satish (23), residents of Gokula layout 2nd cross.
Mariyappa had been undergoing kidney dialysis for the last two-and-a-half years and had to do so thrice a week. He also underwent a cardiac surgery a few weeks ago.
Depressed by his situation, he tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of the moving train. Satish, who saw his father trying to commit suicide, tried to save him, but both of them came under the wheels of the train and were crushed to death.
The Tumakuru railway police have registered a case in this regard.
