PM Modi reaches Tumakuru; Justifies CAA

Tumakuru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hit out at the Congress for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act and said that the Congress was opposing the Constitution.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his speech with a salutation in Kannada, “Ellarigu Namaskara”.

Speaking at Sree Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru, Modi said: “Our government brought CAA, but Congress has opposed it. These people have started agitation against Constitution.”

“They are opposing entry of Dalits and other persecuted people from Pakistan. The atrocities against minorities have been rising in Pakistan. Pakistanis have unleashed injustices against the Hindus, Sikhs, Jains but Congress hasn’t raised its voice.”

While attacking the Congress, Modi said: “They don’t have the time or intention to take on Pakistan. It’s our duty to stand by those who are fleeing Pakistan. It’s our duty to help them.”

Modi was welcomed at the Siddaliga Mutt by the Mutt pontiff by handing over idol of Siddalinga Shivakumara Swamiji.

Earlier in the afternoon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had unveiled the foundation stone of the museum which is dedicated to the late Siddaganga seer Shivakumara Swami at a ceremony in Siddaganga Mutt today.

Speaking about the museum, Modi said that he had been given the opportunity to visit the museum today after several years and said, “Shivakumara Swamiji had touched the lives of hundreds of people and I consider it a blessing that I was able to unveil a museum dedicated to him today.”

KRRS stages stir, demands implementation of Dr Swaminathan Report

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, during the Prime Minister’s visit, claiming that Modi’s policies were anti-farmer.

KRRS state president Kodihalli Chandrashekhar and other farmer leaders who joined the protesters demanded the government to implement the Dr Swaminathan Report, opining that by doing so, it would help the farmers increase their income.

More than 200 farmers were part of the protest.
