Tumakuru: Congress leader C M Ibrahim has taken a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stating, “The BJP candidates are asking for a marriage after seeing the mother instead of the daughter.” He was referring to the BJP candidates asking for votes in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a rally supporting Janata Dal (S) Supremo H D Devegowda, Ibrahim said, “Instead of talking about the achievements and developmental works by the central government, the BJP candidates are asking for votes mentioning PM Modi’s name.” “Is there any comparison between Modi and Devegowda? Can Modi ever be considered equal to Devegowda?” asked Ibrahim.

Slamming former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Ibrahim said, “Yeddyurappa who says he is a ‘Veerashaiva Lingayat’ did not give a minister’s post to even one of the eight Lingayat legislators of his party when he was the chief minister.”

“Out of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies not even a single constituency has a backward community candidate from the BJP. Eshwarappa is from the Kuruba community, but even he could not ensure ticket for a candidate from his community,” he added.

“The BJP is already talking about changing the Constitution. Do you think they will not do it if they come to power? It is for the people to decide whether the Constitution drafted by B R Ambedkar should be safeguarded or not. I request the people to vote sensibly,” Ibrahim said.
