Tumakuru: Five persons died on the spot and 12 others sustained serious injuries when the tractor in which they were travelling, toppled on a sloppy road near the Hatyalu Narasimha Swamy temple near K B Cross in the Tiptur taluk of the district on Saturday night. A total of 20 people were travelling in the tractor.
The deceased have been identified as Shankaramma (55), Shivalingaiah (50), Shankarappa (60), Nagaraju (43) and Bhuvana (9).
All the deceased are residents of the Madapura village in Chikkanayakanahalli. The injured are rushed to the Tumakuru district hospital.
According to the Kibbanahalli police, the incident occurred when the devotees were returning after offering Saturday sevas at the temple. “The driver lost control of the tractor as it was a sloppy road. The tractor hit a roadside wall and toppled, claiming the lives of five people. Others were severely injured,” police informed.
