Tumakuru: A fake Lokayukta SP has been arrested by the Tumakuru police from Karwar jail following a complaint filed by an assistant executive engineer in Gubbi taluk.
H R Ramesh is the complainant.He is said to have been a victim of the accused person’s threats.
Murugappa Ningappa Kumbar (51) of Sadalaga village, Chikkodi taluk of Belagavi district is the arrested.
According to the police, the accused who was posing as a Lokayukta Superintendent of Police used to threaten and raid houses and was blackmailing officers for money.
He used to call the MLAs of various districts, introduce himself as the Lokayukta SP and make allegations that a particular officer was indulging in corruption. He would ask the MLA to tell the officer concerned to call him.
When the officer called him he would say that he knew about his misdeeds and threatened to raid his house if he failed to deposit Rs 1 or Rs 2 lakh to his bank account.
However, he was arrested from Karwar jail following a body warrant and his mobile phone and SIM have been seized. He has been sent to the custody of Tumakuru police.
It has been reported that the accused was a civil police constable for 13 years in Belagavi and was dismissed from service. 17 cases have been registered against him in Belagavi, Kolar, Tumakuru, Bengaluru, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Karwar, Dharwad, Kalaburagi and Uttara Kannada districts.
He is currently undergoing imprisonment in Karwar jail in a case registered in the Market police station in Belagavi.
