Tumakuru: The rift between the state coalition Congress and Janata Dal (S) has become evident, especially after the general election mandate. Yet another coalition leader, JDS MLA D C Gowri Shankar has opined that this coalition has not been fruitful.

Speaking to the media, in the JDS introspection meet, here on Sunday, May 26, he opined that if there was no Congress-JDS coalition then, JDS Supremo H D Deve Gowda, who had contested from Tumakuru Lok Sabha constituency against BJP candidate Basavaraju, would have won with a margin of two lakh.

“Is the very essence of the coalition, only to defeat one over the other? I’m not afraid if Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy gets angry or HDD expels me from the party, I urge to end this coalition right here. We have had enough”, he said.

Gowri Shankar opined that the reason for such horrible results was that the party workers of both the parties had not been compatible together.

Attacking former Congress MLA K S Rajanna for his statement against CM HDK, he said, “Let him mind his language. Let him accept that he has helped BJP candidate Basavaraju to get more votes and not for the coalition candidate HDD. If that is the case, I urge my party high command to place me as a candidate against Rajanna in the next assembly elections.”

It can be recalled that earlier, Rajanna had called CM HDK a corrupt politician alleging that he had made money in IAS officers’ transfers.

He had said, “Let CM HDK and other ministers in his cabinet prove that they are not corrupt. CM HDK goes to temples and offers prayers and special pujas in that corrupt money. What is the use?”

He had also commented on Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar and said, “He is not the DCM but only a ‘Zero Traffic’ minister.”

Meanwhile, Gowri Shankar has said that people were tired of the coalition drama and hence he and his fellowmates in the party were ready to break the relation with the coalition partner.
