Tumakuru: Atul Kumar, popularly known as “Madhugiri Modi”, who has created a controversy by allegedly abusing Prophet Mohammed and the Muslim community, has been arrested by the police on Wednesday, February 26.
It is alleged that he posted a video of a communally provocative speech against Prophet Mohammed on February 10, which was condemned by a lot of Muslim organizations who urged that Kumar be arrested. They asked that stringent legal action be taken against him. Based on this, several complaints were also filed in various police stations of the state.
According to reports, Kumar had escaped from his residence after finding out that the police were about to raid on his house and arrest him. He posted an inciting video from an unknown location on Facebook and also criticized the police.
As the search operation for him was intensified, the police received a tip-off that Kumar was hiding in Andhra Pradesh. The police went to the neighbouring state, found him in Azad Nagar and arrested him. He was then brought to Karnataka.
Reports say that he had made several provocative videos.
Kumar was also warned by the police several times earlier, but he continued to post provocative videos.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that he had also campaigned for the BJP during the 2019 general elections while on a bike.
