Tumakuru: Former Mayor of Tumakuru, Batawadi corporator and JD(S) member Ravi Kumar was brutally hacked to death on Sunday morning, September 30. The incident occurred near the Batawadi Fire Station at around 8 am.
He was pronounced brought dead by the doctors at the Tumakuru District Government Hospital.
Ravi was having tea while conversing with the locals about civic issues in the area when he was attacked. It is learnt that the assailants had thrown chilly powder into his eyes before mercilessly attacking him. He was unable to escape the attack as his attackers had hit him on the head. Seven people were involved in the brutal attack. They arrived and left in a Tata Ace pickup truck carrying the license plate number KA 09A6484. The vehicle was later found near the Akka Tangi lake.
The police have not yet been able to figure out a motive, but they suspect that it could be because of an old rivalry as Ravi Kumar is a rowdy sheeter, who was a suspect in the murder of Hatti Manjanna back in 2015.
The crime scene was visited by the dog squad and forensic experts and police are on the look out for the assailants. Two separate teams have been formed to probe the incident.
