Xiaomi is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and it won't be surprising if it launches the Mi5 very soon. What is surprising is that the Mi 5 will be launched with MIUI 7, the Lollipop version of MIUI.
Xiaomi owned MIUI is one of the most popular third-party ROM in the tech community but lately it has been facing a lot of criticism for not adopting the Lollipop update even after months of the official release. Companies like Yu have taken advantage of this and have teased the Chinese smartphone manufacturer for the slow adoption rate of Lollipop.
There was no official news regarding the next major build of MIUI until now but an established custom ROM community, AOKP has revealed that they are working on the next major build and claim that the details "have finally been crystallised."
Team Kang that is behind the development of the ROM has announced that they are working on "a new and refreshed MIUI 7, which will be finally based on Android 5.1, and be coming on the Mi 5." The official blogpost of the team claims that the new version codenamed 'MiKangy' will see a new take on Android user interface. They promise that the UI will evolve with the user and after a few months' time spent with the ROM each user get a different and personalised version in accordance with the user's needs.
The collaboration with Xiaomi will not hamper AOKP's work on its Lollipop versions of Android. The blog stated, "This new collaboration with Xiaomi is an entirely new project and should not be considered as having an effect on the future of AOKP."
The company has offered a price cut in its Chinese versions of Mi4 which is a big indication that Xiaomi is going to launch its new flagship Mi5 very soon.
