Instead, just get a Zippr code, an eight-digit alphanumeric code that shortens your address and pin-points your house/office on a map! Get the app on your mobile phone, grab a customisable code and share it with friends!
Last month, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) gave the code an official stamp, deciding to allot Rs five crore for adopting the smart address system. The Zippr code will now help the Corporation connect with the 15 lakh houses and business setups in its jurisdiction. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) could be next!
The app was born out of a US-returned Aditya Vuchi’s frustration with repeatedly giving directions to cab drivers to his house. Vuchi kept the app really simple.
Here’s how it works: Once it is downloaded on your Android smart phone or iPhone, you feed the exact address as a one-time process to generate a code that is latently linked to a Google map. The code could then be customised according to your name or place, retaining the eight-digit alphanumeric format.
SMS the link
So, when a friend or a cab driver seeks your location, you just send him/her a SMS or a WhatsApp message with a link. Clicking the link will automatically take the recepient to the Zippr code’s precise location overlaid on a Google map. A navigation link will add directions from the recepient’s current location to your place. Your friend or the driver needn’t have the mobile app.
The Zippr code is seen as an improvement over navigation that uses only Google map. Last mile connection could be an issue with Google maps, if the GPS coordinates are not perfect. Here’s what Vuchi has to say on Zippr’s future plans:?“As a result of Hyderabad’s addresses becoming smart, many city bodies in India have expressed interest in Zippr’s solution with intent to integrate and we are running pilot projects in other cities as well.”
Here’s how the code will expand in Hyderabad, and later to other parts of the country, including Bengaluru:?“Over the next few months, all public utilities and emergency services will start to be linked with Zippr (as the smart address). In addition, our partners in logistics, e-commerce, food delivery and others will soon leverage Zippr code integration on their check-out page as an address format.”
