Amazon says the Kindle Voyage is the thinnest Kindle ever and features a higher resolution, higher contrast display with a new adaptive front light and enhanced page turns.

The Voyage is 7.6mm thin, weighs less than 180grams (Wi-fi version) and features a flush glass front and a magnesium back.

It sports Amazon’s 6-inch display with Carta e-paper technology and adaptive front light that adjusts automatically, with a 300 ppi resolution, optimized font technology and 16-level gray scale.

Kindle Voyage also offers PagePress, a new way to turn pages using a custom-designed force sensor that sits directly under the bezel. Pages can be turned by simply resting your thumb on the bezel and turn the page by lightly pressing. Kindle Voyage delivers tactile feedback from a haptic actuator when a page is turned. Users can personalize both the pressure level needed to trigger a page turn and the haptic feedback level.

The e-reader comes with weeks of battery life· It comes with the latest Kindle software that offers features like Whispersync, Smart Lookup, Time to Read, Kindle Page Flip, Vocabulary Builder and social sharing support.

“The stylishly designed Kindle Voyage was crafted to give readers the best possible reading experience,” said Rajiv Mehta, country manager, Kindle India. “They can download books from the selection of 3 million eBooks in the India Kindle Store, read for hours without eyestrain or glare, and even read in bright sunlight. With free 3G available on Kindle Voyage, users never have to hunt for or pay for a Wi-Fi hotspot. With a battery life that’s measured in weeks, it is the perfect reading companion.”

Earlier this week, the India Kindle Store also announced support for local credit and debit cards, net banking and Amazon.in gift cards to purchase eBooks.

“We want to make it easier for our customers across India to read more and more, anytime and anywhere. The choice of devices and additional payment methods are all to enable and celebrate their passion for reading.” added Mehta.
