Shivamogga: A street in Vidyanagar was literally drowned in a pool of blood on Sunday, June 3, when a man was killed with a machete in broad daylight in the city.
The unfortunate victim has been identified as Prabhu (43), a mason from Vidyanagar. His attacker, a youth from Vidyanagar, has been identified as Ravi Kumar (20).
It is alleged that witnesses recorded the incident on their mobile phones instead of trying to help the victim, despite his repeated pleas. They are also said to have hesitated to take the bleeding victim, who was lying in a pool of his own blood, to the hospital on time.
A police constable who was travelling along that route is said to have intervened and made an attempt to rescue the victim.
Inspector Devaraj and his staff visited the scene of the crime and a case was registered in the Kote police station. The cops are on the hunt for the absconding assailant.
Prabhu, a married man, knew his attacker well as they were both masons from the same locality. In the days leading up to the horrific incident, Prabhu began to speak ill about the family life of Ravi's brother, Raju. He reportedly, told Ravi that his brother was married to a woman from the Valmiki community earlier and spoiled her life by deserting her for sake of another woman.
Ravi warned him against speaking ill about his sister-in-law but, Prabhu continued to bad mouth the family.
Deeply enraged by the continuous maligning, Ravi took matters into his own hands and attacked Prabhu near a wine shop in Vidyanagar. Prabhu was rushed to McGann Hospital after sustaining severe injuries but, he succumbed after battling for his life for around an hour.
