Shivamogga: Unidentified thieves broke into the residence of KPTCL Assistant Electrical Engineer in the broad daylight at the KPTCL- Mescom quarters here on Friday, July 27 and decamped with cash, gold and silver after setting the house on fire.
Thieves gained entry into the house of Shivakumar Swami by breaking the lock of the rear door during the daytime when nobody was at home. They fled with Rs 35,000 cash, 58 grams of gold and 300 grams silver and idols. They even lit the bed and cupboard on fire, destroying papers and documents, before fleeing from the spot.
Thieves also broke into the residence of Manju, a neighbour of Shivakumar Swami, and decamped with 7 grams of gold, 250 grams silver and cash.
During the time of the theft, both the families had gone to offer prayers at the Mariyamma Temple in the city, said sources.
Gowramma, the wife of Shivakumar Swamy, alleged that there was no protection at the government quarters.
