Shivamogga: While there has beem a lot of bad news on the COVID-19 with the number of infections and death rising day-by-day, there has been some good news from Shivamogga regarding the Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD).
According to district Deputy Commissioner K B Sivakumar, this year, the district administration has been able to contain the disease compared to the previous years.
This year, 139 KFD cases were reported in the district and over 139 have been cured, officials said on Thursday. This is far less when compared to last year when over 400 people got infected and 23 people died.
DC Sivakumar also informed that there has been one death attributed to KFD this year and the results on two deaths are awaited.
The Kyasanur Forest Disease is caused by a virus belonging to the Flaviviridae family. It is transmitted to humans either after a tick bite or from contact with an infected animal, especially a sick or recently dead monkey, which is why the disease is commonly known as monkey fever.
