Shivamogga: In order to send out a message to actor/politician Kamal Haasan that he should not be afraid if anybody threw slippers at him, social activist T R Krishnappa did an open demonstration by taking a slipper and beating himself with it here on Tuesday, May 21.
Addressing a press meet in saffron outfit, he said, “Kamal Haasan should not worry or panic if anyone throws slippers at him, as it is a very essential thing for a human. It protects us and that is a big thing. Hence, throwing slippers should not be considered offensive.”
“Bhopal Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh had termed Nathuram Godse who had killed Mahatma Gandhi a patriot. This is not acceptable. But, later, she has apologised for the same which is a good move and we welcome it”, he added.
Krishnappa said, “People have always attributed low standards to slippers but they must also remember that the same thing protects our health. So, if you are hit with it, you should not be ashamed. I am ready to take beatings from it, even if it is from the media persons.”
Meanwhile, he opined that those wearing saffron outfit must not commit any mistake.
It may be recalled that earlier Kamal Haasan had commented that the first Hindu extremist was Nathuram Godse who had killed Mahatma Gandhi. Following this comment, slippers were thrown at the actor-turned-politician in Tirupparankundram Assembly Constituency while he was campaigning for his party candidate.
