Shivamogga: A case of fraud revolving around a reputed courier service has come to light in the district, where a customer was looted to the tune of Rs 51,000 in the name of courier service registration fee.

Sadique, a resident of NT Road had sent a courier through a reputed courier service on October 23.

He observed that even though he was given a timeframe for delivery to the destination, it had not reached the receiver as per the schedule.

Later, when Sadique checked with the courier service branch office, they said that the problems may have occurred as he had not registered his address. They also told him that they would charge Rs 3 for registering and then his parcel would reach the said destination. Convinced by the same Sadique decided to pay the nominal amount and register his address.

As he received a link to register the address, he clicked on it and he reportedly lost Rs 51,000 from his HDFC Bank account.

Understanding that it was a clear case of fraud, Sadique has filed a case with the CEN Crime Police.
