Shivamogga by-polls concludes peacefully: K A Dayanand

Shivamogga: The Shivamogga Lok Sabha by-polls on November 3, witnessed chaos in the morning, when people of a village decided to boycott the elections. However, the tahsildar and the polling officers managed to convince the villagers against their decision.

After ensuring that the polling was completed in all the booths, Deputy Commissioner K A Dayanand had called for a press meet to discuss the voting average and the situation.

K A Dayanand said, “The by-polls ended peacefully of the district without any law and order issues. Elections were held in a smooth manner in the Naxal areas as well.”

“Prior to the elections, around 20 BU (Ballot Unit), 36 CU (Control Unit) and 53 VVPAT had shown errors. During the elections 11 BU, 12 CU and 34 VVPAT had some technical issues,” he added.

He said that even if one BU or CU gets an error, then all the three that is the BU, CU, and VVPAT have to be replaced.

On an average, the voting percentage has reached the mark of 65.82 percent.

DC K A Dayanand said, “The Byndoor polling booths have to be rectified as reports of minor errors were received.”

On less vote share, he said, “Nothing much can be done about that. The villagers who had said that they would boycott the polls have cast their votes.”

“Compared to morning, the evening voting percentage has risen to 13 percent. This upward trend was observed from 3 PM to 5 PM”, he added.

K A Dayanand also recalled a similar experience of election boycott in Kadoor (Udupi), where the voting percentage had shown an upward trend by 20 percent from 3 PM to 5 PM, in 2009.
